Gwent Probation Area employs a total of 190 staff managing an average caseload of 2,500 and completing 2,300 reports each year for magistrates’ and Crown Courts.
The Area is currently involved in a process of restructuring to meet the demands of the What Works programme and in anticipation of the implementation of the Halliday proposals in the relatively near future. That reconfiguration is likely to result in the emergence of eight Units, each managed by a Unit Manager and comprising a 'mixed economy' of professional expertise, including probation officers, PSOs, a psychologist, research provision and a training co-ordinator whose duties will include oversight of the TPO programme
