The Wales Training Consortium, acting on behalf of its constituent Probation Areas, is committed to treating all persons fairly, openly and with respect. We recognise that discrimination can occur in many forms and we are committed to its elimination, adopting policies of positive action where this is permitted.

Our aspiration is to ensure that no person experiences discrimination of any kind as a result of their gender, race, ethnic or national origin, age, relationship status, disability, sexual orientation, religious or political belief, or on any other ground that cannot be shown to be justified.
Becoming a Probation Officer

For the past 11 years recruitment of trainee probation officers has been an annual event, commencing every March.

However  the whole process of training and qualifying within the probation service as a whole is currently being reviewed.

As soon as any details are published they will be put on this website. Thank you for your interest in the probation service.

We regret to inform you that the recruitment for 2008 is now closed.

We are looking for people who
  • can show potential to work with people who have experienced personal or social difficulties
  • have potential to study at undergraduate degree level

For 2008's intake we will deliver the Diploma in Probation Studies in partnership with University of Wales Newport and the four probation areas. Teaching will take place in either Newport or Bangor, depending on which probation area the trainee is based.
